Colombian city to develop 350MW offshore wind pilot project in Latin America

The Colombian city of Barranquilla is all set to create a 350MW offshore wind pilot project, the first one in Latin America.

The pilot project will be constructed near the capital of Atlántico.

For this, the city has already signed a memorandum of understanding with a subsidiary of Copenhagen Infrastructure Partners.

It has been reported that the "Copenhagen Infrastructure New Market Fund (CINMF) project in the Caribbean Sea could be the first offshore wind farm in Latin America."

According to the memorandum, a call will be opened for the structuring of this offshore wind energy pilot project in the first half of 2022.

It will be supported and executed by CINMF in partnership with Public Lighting of Barranquilla (APBAQ).

According to Mayor of Barranquilla Jaime Pumarejo Heins, they want the city to position itself as the energy capital of Colombia.

"We have a great company that is going to support this government policy, it is going to create jobs and it is going to take this industry to a new level," Pumarejo remarked.
