Acciona Energia, Enagas, Cemex and IDAE have inaugurated the first industrial renewable hydrogen plant in Spain.
The project is named as Power to Green Hydrogen Mallorca project. It is part of the EU-subsidised Green Hysland initiative.
It has been informed that the industrial production of renewable hydrogen at the plant will be carried out gradually.
The plant will have a production of at least 300 tonnes of renewable hydrogen annually once it comes into a full operation.
A report mentioned, "The renewable electricity needed to power the electrolyzer will be guaranteed by the 8.5MW Lloseta and 5.85MW Petra solar farms." It has been informed that the hydrogen obtained in the plant is completely renewable.
Green Hysland, coordinated by Enagas, supports the deployment of the necessary infrastructure to build a renewable hydrogen ecosystem on the island of Mallorca.
Acciona president Jose Manuel Entrecanales was quoted in a report, “Green hydrogen is an industrial and economic opportunity for Spain and a fundamental piece in the global energy transition. Public-private collaboration in this project is a reference model of how to take advantage of this opportunity."
The production of the first renewable hydrogen molecules has been regarded as a milestone in Spain.
